About:
Rich yet gentle. Soft on outside, with strong heart. Woman winemaker! Organic old vines. Beautiful terroir. Traditional, natural wine-making. Aged in large foudres.
Tasting Notes:
This has a lovely mineral, smokey, spicey first impression followed by rich, complex dark berry, cherry fruit; it's beautifully balanced, positively gentle for a Bandol with supple tannins but with plenty of body and a long finish.
Vintage Notes:
2010 was another very fine year, very similar here to the Rhône Valley. There was enough water, never too much heat, and a long enough growing season. So the wines have perfume, purity, great balance between the acidity, fine, ripe tannins and aromatic intensity. If anything, they are slightly more dense than 2009 but appear fresher.
Vineyards:
From all parts of the estate’s 11 hectares on gentle slopes at 150m altitude on clay limestone soils enjoying a beneficial, healthy Mediterranean climate. The vines are cultivated organically. The vines are on average 32 years old, the oldest 55 years old. Grapes are hand harvested mid September.
Winemaking:
Destemmed, the varieties are co-fermented together according to the progress of the harvest using wild yeasts in concrete tank with temperatures rising to around 30ºC. Minimal extraction by a short twice daily pumping over; there’s a total maceration of between 2 and 3 weeks, according to tasting. The wine is matured 18 months in new and old foudre and 6 months in bottle. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined.
