About:
This is our own original blend. Made by us... for you! I make it with the assistance of my "Papa Provençal", former vigneron of Domaine de Cassan, and a local winemaker consultant who works with 25 local estates in the Ventoux and Beaumes de Venise and who knows just where to source the best wines to blend to my style. Fruit, freshness and finesse are the pre-requisites; I look for the opposite of people's image of heavy, dense, sweet wines from the Rhône. The red is always light but aromatic with perfumed red fruits. It comes from old vines in the Ventoux, farmed basically organically and made and aged traditionally in concrete tank.
Tasting Notes:
We blend this ourselves to make the wine that we want to drink, a wine that's refreshing, savoury and with the red and black berry fruits and Garrigue aromas that are pure expressions of Southern Rhône terroir. It has very fine tannins and floral freshness. It's a brilliant daily drinker, with personality.
Vintage Notes:
2014 was another complicated year in the Southern Rhône, the sort of testing year that sorts out the great vignerons from the ordinary. Until the end of June the weather was extremely dry and very warm. Prospects for the harvest looked good. But the summer was wholly disappointing with endless bouts of rain and cool weather. It was difficult to gain maturity but on the other hand, the freshness was excellent. As a result the wines have lower alcohol, less density and complexity, and more freshness than usual, all of which amounts to delicious drinking wines from the best vignerons.

Vineyards:
From vineyards in the Ventoux in the Caromb-Mazan-Apt sector, on stony, limestone-clay soils, at around 200m altitude, facing south and south-east. The vines are 30 to 50 years old. Grapes are harvested between mid and end September.
Winemaking:
Vinified traditionally in concrete tank, with a cold soak at the start and temperatures controlled to no more than 28C in order to emphasise the fruit and keep the wine soft by extracting fruit before the alcohol. The bunches were destemmed. The wine is matured 6 months in concrete tank - which is good for the clarity of the wine and reduces need for fining and filtration. The wine is bottled very lightly filtered.
