About:
This white is a treasure of old school finesse and terroir purity! Quite different from the many modern white Châteauneuf-du-Papes (or single varietal wines), it achieves this as a result of having never veered away from traditional methods. It's a classic blend of both grape varieties and soils, thus natural complexity and issues from old vines farmed organically. The winemaking is simple, with a light touch, non-interventionist, made and aged in enamel tank for the fruit to express itself clearly. Great freshness and finesse.
Tasting Notes:
Very aromatic with rich peach and apricot fruit and some almond, fennel, rosemary and white flowers, expressive and warm, while the palate delivers a butter-textured wine with energetic acidity and exotic fruit finish. A great match for all Mediterranean style fish dishes.
Vintage Notes:
2014 was another complicated year in the Southern Rhône, the sort of testing year that sorts out the great vignerons from the ordinary. Until the end of June the weather was extremely dry and very warm. Prospects for the harvest looked good. But the summer was wholly disappointing with endless bouts of rain and cool weather. It was difficult to gain maturity but on the other hand, the freshness was excellent. As a result the wines have lower alcohol, less density and complexity, and more freshness than usual, all of which amounts to delicious drinking wines from the best vignerons.

Vineyards:
From a tiny parcel of vines on galets roulés with clay subsoils near La Nerthe; hot, dry Mediterranean climate and mistral wine; all vines bush trained and viticulture is essentially organic. The vines are 30 to 50 year old vines. Grapes are harvested by hand in early September.
Winemaking:
Whole bunches were very slowly pressed and the juice allowed to settle before being fermented 100% in enamel tank for 4 weeks using only wild yeasts, with malo blocked. The wine is matured 6 months in tank. The wine is bottled very lightly filtered (with regret but necessary in order to ensure clarity and hygiene – there may still be a small deposit).
