About:
Georges Delille created this classic Bandol estate in 1963 when he was seduced by the beauty of the site, the potential of the soils and the exceptional character of Bandol wines. He terraced, restored walls, managed the soils, planted, and eventually in 1975 built an underground cellar from which the first wines came out in 1980. With around 80% of its production sold in France, the Domaine has a great reputation for classic wines, in all three colours, made in a very elegant, subtle, understated style - which is surprisingly accessible when young, and, being Bandol, age superbly. In 1980 Georges' son Reynald joined and continues to run the estate today.

The estate lies in a unique geological zone, for Bandol. The top soil is brown clay (hence the name of the estate!) which sits on a bed of limestone requiring the vine roots to penetrate deeply. The viticulture has always been organic and the estate is today certified Agriculture Biologique. Three wines are produced, one of each colour, and no special or super-cuvées or vineyard selections. The red is always around 85% Mourvèdre and the Rosé 60%, while the Blanc is based on Clairette. The reds are aged in large, old oak foudres for 18 months to contribute balance and finesse before bottling.

A visit here is timeless, and often offers an opportunity to taste much older wines, including superbly aged whites and rosés which shows that Terrebrune has changed little in its old school winemaking style over the years, an old school style, which the drinker can celebrate and truly be glad for.

Wines from Terrebrune

Terrebrune Bandol Blanc 2014

Clairette 40%, Ugni, Bourboulenc, Rolle, Marsanne
“The finest white in Provence” says Revue de Vins de France and the wine has many Michelin star listings in France, too. There is something magical about this white Bandol, as with all Terrebrune wines. There's complexity but it's not complicated. There's richness and depth but also a lightness of touch. It comes from a unique terroir in Bandol based on a limestone subsoil with "terre brune" topsoil, which has always been farmed organically since planting in 1962. The wine sees no oak. The 2014 comes in at just 12.72% alcohol, too!

Terrebrune Bandol Rosé 2014

Mourvèdre 60%, Grenache, Cinsault
“2012 Coup de Coeur. The most subtle rosé in Provence”, says Revue de Vins de France and the wine has many Michelin star listings in France, too. There is Provence rosé, then there is Bandol rosé, and then there is Terrebrune, with its unique style being delicate yet richly flavoured with very fine structure! Where many rosé are deliberately simple and not quite red or white, this is perhaps both red and white! It comes from a unique terroir in Bandol based on a limestone subsoil with "terre brune" topsoil, which has always been farmed organically since planting in 1962. The wine is made very simply and sees no oak. The wine comes in at just 12.85% alcohol, too!

Terrebrune Bandol 2011

Mourvèdre 85%, Grenache, Cinsault
“The most classic and successful in Bandol”, says Revue de Vins de France this wine also has many Michelin star listings in France, too. Bandol produces some of the richest flavoured, most tannic red wines of the South of France from the Mourvèdre grape but where others tend to be quite powerful, Terrebrune is all about finesse and freshness. The estate lies on a unique terroir in Bandol based on a limestone subsoil with "terre brune" topsoil, which has always been farmed organically since being planted between 1962 and 1985 by the current owner's father. As required by the Appellation of Bandol, this red is aged 18 months in foudre. The estate puts its all into just one great Cuvée, based on 85% Mourvèdre. And with just 34 mg/l of total SO2, this wine is good for the vin nature lover, albeit very classically flavoured.
