Bois de Boursan Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2012
If you want old school finesse and terroir purity, this is the wine! It stands apart from the crowd having never veered away from traditional methods. It comes from some of the oldest vines of the Appellation organically farmed on a mosaic of different soils. This, along with whole bunch fermentation and long ageing in old foudres, are the key to the natural freshness, beauty and complexity of this wine. Will age gracefully for 30 years or more.
Bois de Boursan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2014
This white is a treasure of old school finesse and terroir purity! Quite different from the many modern white Châteauneuf-du-Papes (or single varietal wines), it achieves this as a result of having never veered away from traditional methods. It's a classic blend of both grape varieties and soils, thus natural complexity and issues from old vines farmed organically. The winemaking is simple, with a light touch, non-interventionist, made and aged in enamel tank for the fruit to express itself clearly. Great freshness and finesse.
Espiers Gigondas 2013
A difficult year produced some deliciously drinkable and juicy wines. This, our usual favourite Gigondas, made from organic, hillside vines, has just 13.64% alcohol (and a modest 43 mg/L SO2 Tot) but still offers fantastically rich and complex classic Gigondas fruit. As usual the tannins are velvet, the acidity gentle but very present. Made simply using wild yeasts in concrete with 30% seeing some oak. Very limited production.
Murinais Crozes-Hermitage Les Amandiers 2013
This is a beautifully crafted, un-showy, old-fashioned and gently refreshing style of Crozes that also expresses perfectly the terroir. The Syrah shows an earthy, blackberry and raspberry purity with an appropriate dash of black pepper. It's made from organic vines, simply, using wild yeasts, a light touch of sulfites (42 mg/L SO2 Tot) and wears just 12.73% alcohol.
