Wines with Mourvèdre

Tour du Bon Bandol Rosé 2013

Mourvèdre 60%, Grenache, Cinsault
Agnes Henry has long made richly flavoured, energetic, savoury, organic Bandol, some of the best, most characterful in the Appellation, and in all 3 colours. 20 years ago she employed and gave a start to one Thierry Puzelat, no less! [more] This Rosé always tastes better in its second year in bottle, having rounded out, it recalls both the neighbouring seaside and the wild scrub of the local hills. It boasts just 13% alcohol and is a terrific mariage with salad meats, all kinds of fishes and picnics.

Clos Perdus Corbières Mire La Mer 2013

Mourvèdre 65%, Carignan 30%, Grenache 5%
This is one of the Languedoc-Roussillon's most interesting and finest wines, from a unique blend of 40 year old Mourvèdre and over 100 year old Carignan. Biodynamically farmed and made with wild yeasts and without sulfites until a touch at bottling (to give 37 mg/L SO2 Tot), it's part fermented and then aged in new and old oak barriques to achieve a complex, rich but marvellously alive wine that will also age brilliantly.

Terrebrune Bandol 2011

Mourvèdre 85%, Grenache, Cinsault
“The most classic and successful in Bandol”, says Revue de Vins de France this wine also has many Michelin star listings in France, too. Bandol produces some of the richest flavoured, most tannic red wines of the South of France from the Mourvèdre grape but where others tend to be quite powerful, Terrebrune is all about finesse and freshness. The estate lies on a unique terroir in Bandol based on a limestone subsoil with "terre brune" topsoil, which has always been farmed organically since being planted between 1962 and 1985 by the current owner's father. As required by the Appellation of Bandol, this red is aged 18 months in foudre. The estate puts its all into just one great Cuvée, based on 85% Mourvèdre. And with just 34 mg/l of total SO2, this wine is good for the vin nature lover, albeit very classically flavoured.
